Ten Down

Hey, hey, hey! How is everyone this fine Wednesday evening? I'm back again to give your ears another treat.

In case you wonder why I love blogging about indie music, all you need to do is follow this post. I've had so many indie artists reach out to me because of this very blog that all I have time to do in my spare time is check out new music from some of the best indie artists from all over the world... and tonight is no exception!

Without further ado, I give you South Central Missouri's very own Ten Down.

Ten Down is a hard rocking quartet made up of Russ Rhodenizer, lead vocals/guitar; Erick Eubanks, lead guitar/backing vocals; Travis McCoy, bass/backing vocals and Bruce Farris, drums.

THAT right there, ladies and gentlemen, are 14 of the hardest rocking songs I've heard in some time! If you enjoyed what you heard there, make sure you take the time to check out lead singer Russ' solo material as well, The Russ Rhodenizer Project... taking acoustic rock to a whole new level!

The women of indie music

Hey everyone! Back for another night of indie music discovery are you? Be glad you picked tonight to check back in. THIS is probably the longest overdue post yet on this blog. Sit back and get ready to be introduced to some of the best women of indie music I can give you!

Sasha Alcott from When Particles Collide, Bec Hollcraft from Stars in Stereo, Evie, Natalie Gelman, Mariana Bell, Lorelei Carlson, Aylin Eser, *AUDRA* from Chaser Eight, Nicki Kris, Abby Holden, Leesa Coyne from Naked on Roller Skates. Would anyone care to venture a guess as to what these 11 women have in common? Don't go for the obvious "they're all female indie singers" either! Besides the obvious, there isn't a single female singer on mainstream radio that holds a candle to ANY of these talented indie artists.

From alt/rock, to rock n roll, to folk, to r&b, to pop, to punk, there's a sound here for every taste. Some of these artists you'll recognize from previous posts on this blog, others are making their debut here. Take a listen...

There's a lot to be said for what each of these women means to the indie music community. More importantly, they collectively represent what music can one day (hopefully soon) get back to.

Make sure you follow, like and share the music of these very deserving ladies on Twitter, Facebook, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, MySpace, individual websites, etc. Even more important? If you hear something you like, support them properly and buy their music! Each of them has links available to iTunes, CDBaby, buy them on Reverbnation, and Amazon.com or directly from the artists on their websites. To quote @limey59, "pay it back, buy a track"!

August Rising

Happy Friday everyone! I realized that I've been slacking somewhat lately keeping up with this blog. All it took for me to realize that was hearing August Rising on my iPod this morning at work.

The purpose of this blog, at least for me, was/is to introduce as many of you to as many indie artists as I can. As I've gone along on this journey, I am constantly being followed on Twitter by indie artist after indie artist. There is so much incredible music out there that is being ignored by the mainstream, so I will do what I can to make sure that these artists have an outlet to be heard!

That being said, let's get back to the band in the title, August Rising.

I was introduced to their music by the folks over at Wise Radio nearly two years ago. They instantly became a favorite of mine, then the unthinkable happened sometime around last September: the band entered an indefinite hiatus. As it goes with so many indie artists, they try to forge a path for themselves in an extremely crowded and highly competitive industry that the inevitable happens. One day they turn a corner and realize that it's time to take a step back and reevaluate what they're doing and what direction they hope to take. I can only hope that Jeff and Jarod are able to make another run at this, because music this good deserves to be heard by the masses!

Now I will do my part to make sure that they're music stays on our collective minds, and I'd like your help.

Give them a listen and find out how easy it was for me to get hooked on their sound. Once you do, join me in spreading the word about them and their music. Share it on Facebook and Twitter, tell your friends and family. Let them know that there is fan base for them that's anxiously awaiting their return!
