Heaven the Axe

Looks like I've found a cure for the bout of writer's block that I've been dealing with lately.

I've been dying to introduce to you, my faithful readers, one of the coolest hard rock/metal bands in the world, and I can't think of a better way to do just that.

Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is Heaven the Axe!

Hailing from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Heaven the Axe is one of the hardest hitting female fronted metal/rock bands anywhere. Period.

Need proof?

I thought that would get your attention.

Heaven the Axe is comprised of Phoebe Pinnock- vocals, Steve Watts- guitar, Mat Silcock- guitar, Trav Pric- bass and Aramis SV/Tommy Rossell/Matt “Skitz” Sanders- drums.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, let's get down to a little bit of business here, shall we?

Hard Rock Cafe is currently sponsoring a global battle of the bands competition, Hard Rock Rising The Global Battle of the Bands 2013. Heaven the Axe has won the right to represent the entire country of Australia in this global competition. What's at stake? How about a world tour for starters? And reading the contest rules, there are quite a few other goodies in store for the winning band as well!

Need more proof of how badass this band is?

Now this is where you, the fans, come into play. The voting is intense to say the least. The band currently has 6824 "likes" on Facebook and 2485 followers on Twitter. WHY IN THE HELL DO THEY ONLY HAVE 225 VOTES IN THIS COMPETITION? It's time to step up folks. I know there are a lot of bands in this competition. Some of you may already have cast a vote for another band, and that's fine. If you haven't already voted, why not take literally less than 30 seconds of your time to vote for one of the hottest bands around today?

I personally have a soft spot for indie female fronted bands, Want to know why? Turn on your local over-the-air rock radio station and listen to what they consider rock music today (I'll give you a second). Now, refer to the above SoundCloud links and ask me why again.

Very simple. Click on the link below, or the link on the band's website. Or any one of the links that have been Tweeted or posted on Facebook by Phoebe. Let's do the right thing and help get Heaven the Aze out on the road for ALL the world to enjoy!

Voting is ending soon... too soon, but there is still time! VOTE NOW THRU MAY 1ST. And please share this with everyone you know!!!

It's Mello

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the rebirth of hop-hop.

As I've stated in a previous post, I fell out of touch somewhat with the r&b and hip-hop scene some time ago. I felt like those two genres were the first to suffer from what has become the trend with "popular" music. Too many up-and-coming artists being polished into what some old stodgy record exec felt was the best product at the time and being force fed to the tweens of today that line their pockets.

Even these so-called hard-core hip-hop artists today are soft compared to their contemporaries. I grew up in the day of the likes of Afrika Bambataa, Kool Herc, Sugar Hill Gang, Slick Rick, Ice-T, Eric B and Rakim, NWA, Nemesis, Ron C... I can go on and on, but you see the point I'm getting at? Those days of hip-hop are long gone.

Then along comes a fella from Jersey to open my ears and eyes to what hip-hop and r&b can get back to.

This is Mello.

Mello's most recent project, Open Windows is aplty named for his introduction to my blog.

From the opening track to the last, there isn't a missed beat to be found. This entire mix-tape takes me right back to the heyday of hip-hop. Summers growing up in Dallas never felt this good Mello.

Open Windows isn't Mello's only contribution to righting the world of hip-hop. Check out his SoundCloud page today for one of the most impressive track listings of any artist around.

In Air- The Glow EP is (almost) here

I'm so excited about this post that I can't come up with a catchy intro!!!

What I will tell you is that yes, the long awaited and highly anticipated EP from In Air, The Glow, is in fact almost here. BUT, I am fortunate enough to have been given permission by the guys to share with you the EP ahead of it official public release date of 05/30/13.

I first came across this band around the middle of 2011. It took me some time to get around to checking out their music... and I'm sorry that it took me as long as it did! At that time, the band was know as Nobody Gets Killed, and their debut album, Just a Seed, will forever hold a place very near and dear to my heart for what it gave to me... REAL music. When the band decided last year on a name and (musical) style change, I think they were more worried than their fans about how it would go. Just a Seed would be enough to give ANY band an ulcer when it comes to recording a follow-up. But really Mo, Mike and Tony, you guys have absolutely nothing to worry about because The Glow is AMAZING!

So without further ado, I give to you, in all its digital re-mastered glory, The Glow by In Air!

THIS is what alternative music is about today. Period.

Not that I'm putting any pressure on you guys, but when does the full album come out? LOL!

Poor Yorick

No, I'm not about to start quoting Shakespeare to you... I'm going to introduce you to one of the coolest indie bands that SoCal has to offer.

THIS is Poor Yorick!

Now, if that's not a proper introduction to Poor Yorick, well then, you're reading the wrong blog people!

Poor Yorick is a Los Angeles, CA, USA based indie band led by Rome Balestrieri on vocals and piano and featuring Michael Holowatch on drums, Mars de la Mancha on lead guitar, and David Gielan on guitar/bass/backing vocals.

The best compliment that I think I can pay this awesome band is to not try to group them into one genre or another. As you can see from the video for  Still Not Over You, Poor Yorick can rip it up with the best of them. Give 'em a listen and you'll find jazz influences (Here Again & Kissing You (Des'ree cover)), pop influences (Water and Sky & one of the coolest covers ever recorded, Wicked Game) to alternative (Oblivion) and some good old fashioned alt/rock (Sea of Conundrum).

There is definitely something here for everyone's taste... but why just savor one flavor when you can get the full 7-course meal all at once?

Check out Poor Yorick today, and pick up their new EP Oblivion on iTunes today. Your iPod will be much happier... I know mine is!

Euphoria Audio: Pledge Music Project

As a proud card-carrying member of the #EUAUARMY, it is with great pleasure that I bring this post to you tonight.

The band has recorded their long-awaited and highly anticipated debut album. Now they need our help to get the album out... and to take back music!

I first discovered the music of Euphoria Audio over a year ago, thanks in large part to my personal discovery of #Indie music and the fine folks at Wise Radio. This is a band who instantly connects with their fans thru their music and their unending interaction with us thru social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Most recently, the band has added weekly updates to their YouTube page as well as their SoundCloud page.

The band has officially kicked off their Pledge Music project to allow the fans to help them fund the release of their album. We the fans have entrusted Euphoria Audio to bring the music back to us. Now it's our turn to give back to the band.

Please click on the link below to see the full project update. There are a lot of different price points to pledge and some very generous gifts being offered by the band as well. Please find it within yourself to help fund this very worthy project. With close to 25,000 followers on Twitter and nearly 8,000 "likes" on Facebook, this should be a slam dunk, right?

I've already pledged... will you?

Richie Ashwin

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been much into r&b and/or hip-hop in some time. If I'm being honest, I haven't really been into it since the early part of the 1990's. To me, this genre was the first to fall into the big record trap of putting out the same bland artists that sounded like the same bland artists that were already all over mainstream radio.

Only recently have I rediscovered my love for r&b. You'll be seeing several r&b/hip-hop artists gracing the pages of this blog, and I'm very excited to introduce you all to London, England's very own Richie Ashwin!

Take a listen to to this insanely talented artist and hear everything that was right about r&b and hip-hop from back in the day... with a twist that makes him relevant in music today.

From Run DMC to Babyface to The Beastie Boys to Keith Sweat, you get the entire package wrapped up in Richie Ashwin. Synth-infused drum beats mixed with lyrics about life, love and relationships tied together by one of the smoothest voices today, welcome to the future of r&b- perfect for today!

Collette Andrea

It's not often that I'm blown away by a new (to me) singer. I usually have to have a listen or two to get a feel for the artist, to let the music seep in. That is until the first time I listened to singer/songwriter Collette Andrea.

Coming to you from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Collette is a throwback to an era when music touched your soul. Intelligent lyric writing combined with innovative arrangements and one extremely melodic voice instantly take you back to the golden days of the singer/songwriter in the 60's and 70's, but with a fresh, now feeling.

Now is your time to discover one of the brightest hopes for the future of music!

Saints and Sinners

Got a question for you.

What do you get when you cross one of the top front men in rock n roll today with a genuine drive and passion for his craft?

You get Saints and Sinners, thanks to Kingdom of Few front man Curtis Butala!

Mixing equal parts acoustic rock, alternative rock and just flat out blow-up-your-earholes nasty, dirty rock n roll, Saints and Sinners is a project that Mr. Butala first put out about 6 or 7 years ago... and is already, in my book, one of the finest examples of music ever recorded. Period.

I have it on good authority that there may be some new Saints and Sinners material released by Curtis this summer... is it summer yet?

Check out Saints and Sinners today and get yourself back to what music can be again.
